Midwest Christmas

It was time for our annual trek to the Midwest for Christmas, which we missed last year because Wyatt was just a week old (the perfect Christmas present!). Max spent hours every day playing with the trains (we're not sure why they held his fascination more at Mama and Papa's than at home!) and Wyatt enjoyed all the attention.
Waiting at the airport to board the plane.
Wyatt showing Papa how to work the toys.
Another train-lover!
One of many, many bedtime stories.
Wyatt trying to gobble an ornament.
Their smiles lasted all of 5 seconds before it turned into the scene below.

Wyatt is no longer the baby of the family. Welcome the boys' second cousin, Addalyn!
Wyatt thoroughly enjoyed the gift-opening, even when they weren't his gifts!
And Max is still young enough to enjoy getting non-toy gifts!
There is something irresistable about putting bows on babies' heads.
Max showing Papa the ropes on the iPad.
We went to Union Station during our visit, and just as we crossed the walkway, a Santa Fe train came down the line. With at least 50 coal cars. Max was so thrilled.

Uncle Mike works for a cool company that designs and manufactures utility equipment, and Max got to tour the inside of some of their trucks.

Saying good-byes at the airport.
Wyatt spent the last day of 2011 recovering from all the excitement!

Wyatt is 1!

Before Max even finished off the last cupcake, it was time to celebrate Wyatt's first birthday! At one, Wyatt is a happy and very curious baby. He smiles so big that his face almost cracks, and then when you don't think it's possible, he smiles some more. His only cranky time is when someone takes something away from him (and that someone is usually Max) and when Mom leaves the room. He's wicked mobile on all fours, but hasn't quite mastered the art of standing/walking. Mom thinks he is trying to stay a baby for a little longer, for her sake. He tips the scales at 23 pounds and 6 oz, and is 30.5 inches tall (with a head circumference of 18.75 inches). He's got eight front teeth, and four molars, and it looks like he's going to be a lefty like Mom. Oh, what a year it has been, our little monkey. Happy first birthday, sweet Wyatt!

Max has discovered the benefits of having a younger brother close in age: toys that he likes to play with too!

Max is 3!

At three years of age, Max is an amazing little boy, full of energy (despite forgoing his afternoon nap on a regular basis) and constant surprises. He loves trains and tools and blocks, running as fast as he can, playing with his grandparents, Curious George books, telling us everything he sees and everywhere we're going when we're driving, bugging his little brother, broccoli (!), and cupcakes. Lots of cupcakes. Happy 3rd birthday, Max!
Having his birthday blueberry muffin for breakfast and still perfecting his response to "How old are you?"
Wyatt with his first ever muffin.
Wyatt was none too pleased when Dad tried to swoop in to "help."
